“I have a cunning plan”- Baldrick

img_0004.jpgFor those of you unfamiliar with this quote check out the BBC series Blackadder….. it is a classic.  Seriously now the Shire is beginning  the process for a Strategic Plan - Denmark 2029. This is really big picture stuff. There will be ample opportunity for community input , at the moment it is in the formative stage. The big questions are 1. Where do we want to be in 2029? and 2. How do we get there? I would welcome any input from you dear reader.  I am hope to develop a online survey form … stay tuned. Another question is what do you see as the population at 2029? Is there a population number/limit that we should not go beyond? The future doesnt just happen we make it and it is vital that we get the planning right.

Chairman John

_c9k7219.jpgAt yesterdays meeting of the Climate Change Advisory Committee I was elected chairperson. There is a touch of irony here in that one of the reasons that prompted me to become a councillor was that my application to join this committee was initially rejected. Funny how things turn out ! Just call me Chairman  John.

I’m Back

_c9k6929.jpgI’m back!  Sorry for the long absence , it has taken longer than i thought to recover from my back operation and this has meant that I cannot sit at a computer for too long. Very frustrating ! Thanks to everyone for messages of sympathy and concern. The surgeon’s report makes for interesting reading…. lumbar discectomy on john sampson…..one very large fragment and smaller disc fragment was removed….lateral recess osteophyte/bone spur was drilled off using high speed drill….. my doctor says this means that i can now be described as a partially spineless councillor !!!!! next post I will dive into council matters ( of which there are many )in the meantime enjoy this picture of the rain.

Explanation of missing councillor

1c9k1098.jpgThe reason why I havent been posting entries for awhile is that Ive ruptured two disks in my lower back…. very painful to say the least!!!!  It has made sitting at computer almost impossible hence my neglect of you dear reader.Next week I go to Perth for operation and fingers crossed will be back to normal ( if that is a word to describe me ) soon after . This means that I will miss the first council  meeting of the month but should be OK for the voting meeting on the 26th.  Wish me luck.

Peaceful Bay AGM

img_3028.jpgLast Friday Crs. Barrow , Syme , Phair , Ebbett and myself plus Dale Stewart and Terry Redman attended the Peaceful Bay Progress Association AGM.  The hall/shed was absolutely packed … so much so that they had to open the barn doors so people outside could listen in. There must have been more than 50 people there. The reason for the big turnout was that the leaseholders of the holiday cottages are concerned about the status of the leases which expire on 30th June 2010. It is a complex issue. Dale prepared an information update and spoke to the meeting outlining the situation. The associations President , Tony Duckett who I met for the first time , ran the meeting very well and impressed me with his cool headed thinking. The group resolved to have another meeting at Easter time… so I will keep you posted. In the meantime if anyone from Peaceful Bay wants to comment… click on the link !    I should also add that I was VERY impressed by the sense of community spirit… good on ya Peaceful Bay.

Back from Holidays

img_3169.jpgI hope everyone had a good break. Still lots of tourists in town. Its pantomime time again…. starts tomorrow (Friday ) and runs until Thursday ( Monday night off ) …good fun , staring Cr. Ken R.N…. get along and see it.

December Vote

img_1213.jpgAt Tuesdays meeting council voted to defer consideration of two developments. The first was Item 9.1.4 structure plan and scheme amendment for Lots 348,349 & 350 Kearsley Rd. This was deferred so that the documents could be amended to reflect Councils planning policies. Item 9.1.7 Development of 68 grouped dwellings - Lot 358 Smith St. was deferred so that a site inspection and briefing can take place. The proposal for 21 park homes for permanent accommodation at Ocean Beach Caravan Park - the Council voted to defer consideration and required the proponent to provide information requested by the Department of Water and the Department of Environment and Conservation.  The council did vote 11/1 to adopt the Climate Change Committees recommendations to participate in the Cities for Climate Protection program AND switch to purchasing 25% Natural Power from Synergy as the first step in the longer process of becoming carbon neutral… the Shire used about $75,000 worth of electricity last year so you can see we are big consumers… more about this later.

Stage 5 Water Restrictions

5.jpgWater Corp have announced that stage 5 restrictions will start in Denmark from the 1st January 2008. Basically stage 5 means only 1 day per week for sprinklers(either the morning period or the evening period but not both ) and the use of 1 hand held hose or hand held watering can at other times.FYI there are two further stages if things dont improve….. stage 6- no sprinklers whatsoever, hose or watering can only…. stage 7- watering cans ONLY, no filling of pools,no washing of cars except by bucket of water and cloth and only to the minimum extent to enable safe driving. Hopefully it wont come to that! WaterCorp will be running a advertising campaign to inform residents and visitors.
